Robert Schelling grew up in the Boston area spending his high school years assisting Boston area artists. In 1984, Schelling graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in anthropology. Art and anthropology combined during his travels to India, where he studied with traditional bronze sculptors casting sculpture for Hindu temples and tribal shrines. Classical bronze sculpture, temple architecture, and geometry in nature all inform Schelling's art.

Shelling uses the "lost wax" process to make his highly original sculpture, which has elements of humor as well as a personal cosmology. The surfaces have subtle, rich patinas and the forms are inspired by earlier industrial designs, mythology, and pure imagination. His work has been exhibited in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Paris. Convergence Gallery takes great pride in representing Robert Schelling's sculpture in the Southwest.
