Norah Levine's highly original paintings are informed by her love of animals and her years of experience as a photographer of them.

These paintings display great sensitivity to their subjects. Norah incorporates the medium of encaustic (beeswax and resin), oil pigment stick, pigments, and her embedded photography. There are multiple layers, fused together with a torch or heat gun. Norah's is an intuitive process. She scrapes, incises, etches and paints colors and textures. The orignal photograph inspires the direction of each painting--its palette, depth, and markings. In Norah's own words: "The colors and textures in each piece provide a tactile experience for the viewer. The paintings' luminous layers reveal a visual history of their creation."

After living in Santa Fe for ten years, Norah now lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and five rescue pets. Convergence Gallery is pleased to present Norah Levine's paintings.
