Katherine Irish Henry calls herself a Skywatcher. The daughter of a pilot, Henry grew up hearing her father talk about the meaning of clouds. She learned to observe their intricacy and evanescence--in her own words: "clouds...whirled with power, clouds beautifully choreographed by the growing pressure between hot and cold air." This watchfulness turned into a life calling. Henry feels a kinship with the Naturalist and Luminist painters who seek to capture the beauty of the changing natural world. "Skies touch the edges of water, trees, desert, mountains, and islands. They hold all colors at one time or another. I dream about vast spaces, one home dwarfed, the land made rough by air, fire and water and the pressures and rotation of the earth...Skies are a window to a presence, much larger than we are."

The dramatic pastel paintings of Skywatcher Katherine Irish Henry have been exhibited nationally.
